Greek Meatballs (Keftethes)

This is a family favourite. Meat balls are a great way to get protein into your diet and increase your B12. Did you know that B12 is essential for DNA replication and white blood cell formation. It also plays an essential role in neurotransmitter production to keep your mood vibrant!

  • Cook Time: 25 minutes

  • Total Time: 40 minutes

  • Yield: 4 1x

  • Category: Dinner

  • Cuisine: Greek

Ingredients

SCALE1x2x3x

  • 4 medium potatoes, cut into pieces

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 brown onion

  • 1 kg mince meat (I used pork)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon, ground

  • 1 tsp mixed spice

  • 1 tsp clove, ground

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 cup parsley, finely cut

  • 1 tsp fresh or dried mint

Instructions

  1. Place the onion and potato in a food processor and blend until fairly smooth.

  2. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl, then cover and place the mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes.

  3. Remove from the fridge and make small balls from the mixture.

  4. Into a deep pot, pour vegetable or olive oil (about 3 fingers deep), and place on medium heat. Once the oil is hot place the meatballs into the oil carefully. Turn once one side is cooked

  5. Enjoy with salad and pilaf rice.

Notes

  • Don’t like pork? Alternate mince meats can be used.

  • Don’t want to fry it? Make the balls and bake them in the oven at 180 degrees celcius until cooked inside.
